SYNDICATE STRUCTURE

We syndicate horses each season in twelfth shares and quarter shares. The twelfth share horses all race under the name PAT EDDERY RACING in the distinctive emerald green and dark blue silks. However, the owners within each syndicate collectively decide on the name of their horse. With the quarter share syndicates, the owners also choose their own silks and they run in the names of the four owners.

While we offer twelfth and quarter shares, we are very flexible and can run syndicates for other sized groups, eg three or six people. We also have a number of horses in single ownership.

BUYING THE YEARLINGS

The horses are bought primarily at the major yearling sales, starting at Deauville in August and including Doncaster, Goffs in Ireland and Tattersalls at Newmarket. Pat attends all the sales and works closely with a network of contacts he has built up during 35 years in the saddle to ensure that physically correct horses are bought at the right price.

However, Musk Hill Stud has its own successful breeding operation and home-bred yearlings by stallions such as Beat Hollow, Golden Snake and Danehill Dancer are also available for syndication.

AT THE RACES

Owners are informed about running plans for their horse at the earliest opportunity and certainly no later than the six-day entry stage. We inform owners in a way that suits them, by e-mail, fax or phone, backed up by our web site.

As an owner, you will receive two badges every time the horse runs and one or more of the team at PAT EDDERY RACING will be present at the racecourse to look after you, whether at home or abroad.

BEHIND THE SCENES

We appreciate and understand that for many owners, keeping up-to-date with how their horse is progressing physically and performing on the gallops is almost as important as seeing it on the racecourse. Therefore, you can come up during the week or at the week end to see your horse work on the gallops.

Owners are kept up-to-date with regular monthly horse reports and on our website is an exclusive Owners’ Area where only you and your fellow owners can find out about the latest news on PAT EDDERY RACING  in general or your horse in particular.

Racing is a very sociable sport with owners from all walks of life. Therefore, we organise a series of events throughout the year such as Naming Day lunches, a champagne reception at Royal Ascot, and an annual Owners’ Dinner.

THE COST

Only two payments are required to become an owner. The first is made on joining and covers the purchase price and all-inclusive training fees for the first season.

The payment varies depending on the purchase price of the horse but it includes the following: purchase price, bloodstock agent’s fee, vetting at the sales, insurance against fatality and all-inclusive training fees for the first season ie. all veterinary, transport, race entries, gallops fees, jockey fees, all BHB and administrative costs. You also receive two owners’ badges per race per owner.

The second payment is made at the end of the first season and covers the second season’s all-inclusive training fees.

VAT is payable on the all-inclusive payment but is recoverable through our sponsorship arrangement in accordance with Jockey Club rules.

RESALE OF BLOODSTOCK

Owners taking a share with PAT EDDERY RACING will undertake the contract on the basis of two seasons’ racing.  However, if in the financial interests of the syndicate owners, a significant offer is made for the horse either privately or through the sales ring, that horse may be sold within the two years and all proportionate training fees returned to each owner.

This decision will be made by PAT EDDERY RACING using their expertise and knowledge of the bloodstock market and to the benefit of each syndicate owner.

If a horse is to be kept on as a four-year-old, that decision will depend on the wishes of the owners.  Various options will be available including all the owners staying in the horse or some owners buying out their fellow owners.
